ABOUT HURRICANE SPORT FISHING CHARTERS
If I had to choose just one thing to best describe what Hurricane Sport Fishing
Charters is all about it would have to be SIGHT FISHING!
Whether I'm out stalking Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Bonefish or Permit on spinning
gear or fly casting, I'm using my and your eyes and a stealth approach to sneak
up and cast to tailing, cruising or ambushing fish. Until you've experienced the
rush of spotting, casting to and hooking up a South Florida game fish while sight
fishing, you're in for the thrill of a lifetime. If you have sight fished these
rich and productive waters, you know what it's all about and I pride myself on
being the best sight fishing charter service in South Florida.
I have been fishing Flamingo since age 4 bringing my total local knowledge and
experience to 38 years. I have been guiding for 10 yrs and sight fishing the flats
for 15. I have been an IGFA
CERTIFIED CAPTAIN for four years and became one due to the IGFA's
strong commitment to preserving our fisheries for generations to come. I exclusively
guide charter clients in Everglades National Park, Islamorada in the Florida Keys
and famous Biscayne Bay including Government Cut for monster tarpon.
In the past I have guided the shallow flats of the Galapagos and have helped anglers
attain world records – like the current Pacific Snook 12 pound line class
record for Merijo Attong. Anglers like marine artist Carey
Chen, IGFA personnel Mike Leech, Rob Kramer, and Jason Schratwieser and Captain
Peter B Wright have all fished with me with great success! I've fished all across
Florida, the Galapagos, Guatamala, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas and have adapted
proven techniques from those fisheries to what I do here in South Florida.
My boat is a 2004 18ft Hells
Bay Marquesa which is the perfect flats boat, great boat on a calm day but
it is a dry and comfortable boat when crossing Florida bay or Biscayne bay on
a nasty day looking for bones, reds or tarpon. At the same time, the boat gets
in very skinny water, turns on a dime and poles in the wind very well. It has
a 36 gallon live well, a big enough cooler to hold as many drinks and food as
you would want under the console seat, it also has more than enough dry storage.
It is powered by a 90 hp
Mercury and I use a Garmin
GPS / Fish Finder.
Tackle ... I use Quantum
spinning reels mostly the Cabo
30 or 40 on light rods with stiff action but we also have the Cabo
60 spin with heavier rods to fish for sharks or big tarpon. I use a lot of
Owner hooks 1/0 wide
gap, #1 for tailing bones with live shrimp, 1/0 for permit on live crabs or snook
popping mullet around the trees, bigger hooks like the Owner 6/0 to 8/0 to fish
for big rolling tarpon on live crab or mullet, I also, use Owner hooks to tie
most of my smaller flies.
The line I use is Berkley Fire Line normally 10 lb test for most flats fish up
to 40 lb test especially for the larger permit which are a blast on that light
gear, but I will step it up to 20 or 30 lb for larger fish. I use Ande florocarbon
leaders.
I also use alot of Berkley
Gulp baits, D.O.A. shrimp
and Rapala lures.
Fly rods Temple
Fork Outfitters and G-Loomis
7 through 12 weight and Ross
Reels are my choice of reels. My flies are tied by me!!! There is simply no
better way to "match the hatch" than tying your own flies and the patterns
I've developed are nothing short of fish attracting magic!
I am more than happy to provide complete fishing instruction for beginners on
both spinning gear and saltwater fly gear. Advanced fly casting techniques are
what I specialize in and can take a beginner and make them into a well-versed
fly angler in just a few days time. If you're a seasoned freshwater fly fisher,
I can help you make the move into the world of saltwater fly fishing and have
you sight-casting to tailing Redfish and cover-hugging Tarpon in no time at all.
My goal is to help you become a better angler and show you the magic of South
Florida Sport and Fly Fishing. Hope to see you soon!!
Tight Lines,
